According to Hindu mythology, Tungnath is one of the sacred Panch Kedar temples built by the Pandavas to atone for the sins of killing their kin in the Mahabharata war. It is believed that Lord Shiva, angered by the war, disguised himself as a bull to avoid them. When Bhima recognized him, Shiva's body parts emerged at different locations, with his arms appearing at Tungnath, making it the highest Shiva temple in the world.

Chandrashila, meaning "Moon Rock," is believed to be the place where Lord Rama meditated after defeating Ravana. Some legends also associate it with Chandra (the Moon God), who performed penance here. The peak offers divine energy and panoramic views of the Himalayas, making it a spiritually significant site.
